Girl Meets The New World promo

The lesson of this episode:

Stay young while you can, and don’t fall into peer pressure at a young age when it comes to dating.

The episode started off with Riley and Maya sitting in the bay window in Riley’s room. In an attempt to get Riley to talk about the kiss she shared with Lucas, Maya started making fun of her that was until Farkle showed up in the window saying he needed to make a decision on who to take with him to a concert. He decides on Riley because he liked the way she hugged him. After Farkle left Maya started in again and tried to get her to talk again but Cory and Topanga decided to come to her room to tell her that they needed her to babysit Auggie. Riley was thankful they asked her to babysit because that meant it would be another day where they wouldn’t have time to talk about the kiss. Cory and Topanga told her that they didn’t need her until tomorrow. After they left, Maya continued to try and get Riley to talk about the kiss but was once again interrupted – this time by Auggie. Riley thankful for another interruption quickly went over to Auggie, picked him up and brought him to the Bay window to talk to him. He told his sister that his friend Dewey was coming over to play and was worried about Topanga ruining the fun like she has in the past with Ava. After, Auggie left Maya tried one last time to get Riley to talk about the kiss. This time she finally broke and asked Maya “What happens now?”. The next scene we see Riley, Maya. Lucas, and Farkle sitting in class while Cory is doing a lesson. The way that Cory was talking made the kids wonder if he knew about Lucas and Riley kissing. You could tell by the scene that things were just very awkward for Lucas and Riley. We also learn that Maya’s middle name is Penelope.  Meanwhile Auggie is having his play date with Dewey when Topanga interrupts saying that it’s so nice to see him having a play date with someone other than Ava. Topanga asks Auggie’s friends what his name is and he says “Doy”. Topanga tries to argue with him that it’s pronounced “Dewey” instead of “Doy”. Dewey starts crying and Cory comes out and asks “What did you do Doy?” and Topanga says “Are you kidding me Cory?” and Cory says that to him its Coy and says something like “Come on Doy, I’ll read you a stoy”.

Back at school all the kids are wondering what exactly is going on with Riley and Lucas. The girls have Riley cornered asking all kinds of questions. They want to know if Riley and Lucas are dating now since they kissed. The boys are all in a group asking Lucas questions. Both him and Riley say they won’t act under peer pressure. Lucas and Riley start talking and Lucas asks her to be his girlfriend. Riley wants to know what just happened and asks if she has her first boyfriend. Maya says she doesn’t know but can’t wait to see what happens next. Farkle gets down on one knee and proposes to Maya. Back at home Topanga is still arguing over how to pronounce Dewey’s name and Cory is telling her to let go of her need to be right all the time. After school Lucas and Riley are on their next date at Topanga’s shop. Things are obviously still awkward between them. Lucas says he doesn’t get why its so hard for them to talk all of a sudden and Riley says its because they are boyfriend/girlfriend now. Lucas tells her they are just words. Maya and Farkle show up at the bakery. Maya introduces herself as Mrs. Farkle Minkus and is admiring the ring. Farkle realizes she only said yes for the ring and they do this great comparison. Maya tells Riley to protect her. Riley says “Protect you from what Maya? Relationships are supposed to be about two people who make the choice to come together by themselves” and Lucas chimes in and says “Of their own free will at the right point in time.” Riley wants to know how do they get the diamond to be so sparkly. Farkle explains that pressure and that the diamond used to be a piece of coal that was put under a lot of pressure. Farkle tells Lucas to leave with him but Lucas says he wants to walk Riley home. Riley accepts and together they walk home.

Back with the play date, Topanga has Dewey sit on her lap and she explains to him that she has a funny name too.  She tries to get him to pronounce his name right by explaining what the water is on the grass before he wakes up. He says “Morning Doy”. Topanga finally gives up and Cory makes a comment “That he finally broke you” and says he learned from being a teacher that sometimes you have to just let kids live. Right after he says that Riley and Lucas walk in holding hands. Topanga asks them what they are doing because they look awkward and stiff and asks if its about the kiss she heard about. Cory flips out as he is just learning about the kiss. Topanga tells them to stop holding hands because they look crazy and that they are a part of the best group of friends that she’s ever seen. She says that if they are going to let outside pressure hurt that then they aren’t near anywhere smart than she thought they were. Riley brings up the diamond saying the right pressure can turn you into a diamond and Topanga says that wrong pressure can turn you into dust. Riley and Lucas realize that she is right and they break up.  Riley and Lucas leave to go talk. Topanga shoots it back in Cory’s face “Let the kids live, let the kids live huh” and then goes to find Dewey and Auggie.

Riley and Lucas are back at Topanga’s Bakery and Riley him are talking. He asks her if she knows anything about sports and basketball. Riley begins to go off on this epic rant about being a fan of the Knicks (side note according to @DJMighty on Twitter that part was improv scene by Rowan. She’s a Knicks fan.). The next day at school Riley tells her friends that she’s not going to let them being pressured and that they don’t want to be something they are not. Riley makes a comment that no one is moving fast and then out come Maya and Farkle in wedding attire. At the end of the episode, Topanga is still arguing with Dewey about his name and finally she just gives it up and lets him go to sleep.
