One of the most common fan complaints that I see when it comes to Girl Meets World is that the show is on the Disney Channel instead of ABC Family. I’m not sure why people complain about this because for me personally I think it’s doing fantastic as a Disney Channel show. I’m going to tell you why Girl Meets World is already on the level of ABC Family without it being on the network. “Switched at Birth” is absolutely one of my favorite TV shows on that channel. In tonight’s season finale episode, there was a bit of a climax in the ongoing storyline between Bay (Vanessa Marano), Travis (Ryan Lane) and Emmett (Sean Berdy). The storyline on this show is very similar to what is going on with Girl Meets World’s Lucas, Riley and Maya. Here are the similarities:
- Instead of two girls liking the same guy it is two guys liking the same girl
- Emmett and Travis are best friends on the show just like Maya and Riley are
- Emmett’s mom Melody basically took Travis in which in the same aspect so haven’t the Matthews when it came to Maya. Only difference between the two is Maya hasn’t actually moved in with Cory and Topanga’s family.
- Travis has not had a good life just like Maya hasn’t had one on Girl Meets World
- Emmett and Bay dated on the show like Riley and Lucas. The only difference is Bay and Emmett have more of a history than Riley and Lucas do.
- Travis started falling in love with Bay just like Maya started falling for Lucas
- Bay started rambling on because was getting fed up with Travis when finally he just grabbed her and kissed her. Yes I know that a kiss did not happen with Lucas and Maya but it was very similar to the campfire scene in Girl Meets Texas.
- There was a scene earlier in the episode where Emmett talked to his mom and she found out from him that Travis liked Bay. Melody (Emmett’s mom) told him that he needs to do what is best for Bay in what makes her happy. At the end of the show there was a scene with Emmett and Bay. Bay was crying and Emmett revealed that he already knew Travis liked her. Bay said she didn’t want to hurt Emmett because the two are basically like brothers. Emmett asked her if what she wants is to be with Travis. Bay told him that she didn’t know what she wants and that she was very confused. This reminded me so much of the scene between Riley and Maya on Girl Meets Texas because Emmett’s response was that he wants her to be happy and that he was okay with it. Emmett was not okay with it at first but then his mom told him that if he cared about Bay he needs to do what makes her happy. Again this isn’t the same exact scenario as happened on Girl Meets World but it was pretty close to it because even though it is clear that Riley was not okay with Lucas and Maya possibly being together she did what she felt she had to because she wanted her best friend to be happy.
As of right now these are the only similarities I can think of and if there are anymore when Season 5 comes on later next year, I will make another post noting the similarity’s between the two shows. What I was trying to do with this post was to show that Girl Meets World is already showing that it can be a show on the Disney Channel that has the same type of similarities as to a show that is currently already on ABC Family.
