What a spectacular three-part episode! Absolutely phenomenal. It showed so much growth in the characters, confusion, emotion, and feelings. A lot of development in these three-part episodes. These episodes were so deep and I really enjoyed them a lot. The writers, cast, and crew did a fantastic job on this one. They knocked it out of the park.
I’m not really into shipping but I will always go the direction the writers want to write it. They know how to make you feel the characters which is something I am passionate about and I really enjoy. A lot of people are shipping Rucas or Lucaya but like I said, I won’t comment on that. I also really liked how they filmed on location. It was literally like watching a movie.
Riley, Maya, Lucas, Farkle and Zay head to Texas and we also meet Pappy Joe. Riley and Maya mistakenly signed Lucas up for the bull rodeo competition to ride Tombstone the bull when they thought they signed up him for Judy the sheep. They’re in Texas and we learn that Maya cares and has feelings for Lucas after she watches the TV monitors in a tent and realized it wasn’t what Riley and her were thinking it would be and she got scared and didn’t want him to ride it as he can get hurt. Lucas says he’s going to ride it as Riley, Zay and Pappy Joe encouraged him to do it and Maya said she’s never going to talk to him again. She walked away and went away from them. Riley was watching Lucas ride Tombstone the bull, and he fell off it and Maya and Riley were concerned. The camera was pointing to Maya as she was away from the area and she cannot stop worrying (we don’t blame her). Riley panicked and ran over to Lucas to make sure he was okay, and he was okay.
Riley looks a distance at Maya and realizes that Maya likes Lucas more than a friend and she walked over to Maya and told her that she realizes that Maya likes Lucas more than a friend (Maya making fun of Lucas as she liked him, etc.) and hid it for two years and Riley likes him as a brother (she convinced herself that). Riley and Maya arrive at Lucas’ grandpa’s house and Riley tells Lucas in front of him, Zay, Farkle and Maya that she sees him as brother and sister and Lucas is hurt by that and didn’t’ expect that and she also asked Maya how she feels about him (poor Riley’s voice cracking).
Girl Meets Texas part 2 addressed Maya’s feelings towards Lucas. They’re at Pappy Joe’s house and Lucas was incredibly shocked that Riley said they’re brother and sister when he loves her. Riley and Maya come out of the house and Riley was acting strange towards Lucas and pretended to be like brother and sister and Lucas wasn’t okay with that and he didn’t feel comfortable. Pappy Joe told them to go to Chubbies popular BBQ hangout (Boy Meets World fans loved this reference since that was the hangout for Cory, Topanga, Shawn and Eric). They were at Chubbies and Maya wasn’t herself while sitting at the table when Riley asked Lucas to dance with him. Farkle noticed that and asked “What is going on with you?” Maya replied “I don’t know. Do you know cause… Help me?” and she leaned on his shoulder. Shortly afterwards, Farkle realized that Maya likes Lucas more than a friend and kept saying that she cares about him and Maya replied “I will kill you” (parallel to Boy Meets World with how Topanga said this to Shawn about Cory and she wanted quotes for the yearbook). Vanessa pops up and Maya and Riley pretend to be Zay’s boyfriend as they wanted to stick up for Zay to get Vanessa with him.
A bit later after, Riley saw Maya looking at Lucas while they were dancing to Maddie & Tae (guest starred) performing “No Place Like You”. Maya was falling for Lucas and Riley was hurt as she clearly likes Lucas but is trying to make Maya happy. Afterwards, we’re at Pappy Joe’s house. Cory sent Pappy Joe a letter to tell them they’re his favorite kids, take care of each other and travel the world. Riley says he’s teaching from behind the grave. Riley asks where they can go to look at each others faces. Pappy Joe brought them to a campfire and this scene was so iconic. Vanessa showed up and told Zay she realized that Riley and Maya aren’t his boyfriend and that they were sticking up for him and she was impressed by that and Riley said that he’s a wonderful friend. Vanessa said she must of misjudged him or he changed. They went to get ice cream. Riley tells Farkle that they should go get ice cream too and before they do, Maya reacts as he’s scared to be alone with Lucas. Riley tells Maya to tell Lucas about her feelings and no matter what happens in life, she will still be best friends with Maya. Riley says to Lucas that Maya likes her and Maya didn’t expect that and was annoyed. Lucas was shocked and Riley said that they’re brother and sister. Lucas didn’t want that and Riley said to get used to it. Riley and Farkle leave, and this is where Maya starts talking a bit with Lucas then starts making fun of him like she always does. Eventually she confesses to him that she likes him and Lucas and Maya almost kissed. Maya told Lucas that she had to keep this secret from Riley for two years that she liked him and she didn’t like doing that. She doesn’t want to keep secrets away from Riley. The scene then later goes to Lucas talking to a bull and sheep and comparing them to Riley and Maya on how he met them and compared the animals to Riley and Maya on how one is aggressive and the other isn’t.
Girl Meets Texas Part 3- We return back to John Quincy Adams middle school and we’re in the hallway and Maya wants to talk to Riley about what happened at the campfire. Riley doesn’t want to hear about it and she said she needs to go with her feelings. Charlie shows up out of no where and heard that Riley is no longer with Lucas and he asks if she’s available to go out. Riley and Maya were stunned on how he knew this and then Maya turned around and Zay said he told Charlie because Charlie asked for a story. Next scene Cory and Topanga are with Riley and Maya in Riley’s room. They don’t know how to control their feelings and Cory and Topanga gave them advice that they need to figure it out on their own especially that they’re going to high school and they’re growing up. Cory of course being himself says he can hold them back, and asks Topanga if he can, and she said no.
They’re in class and Charlie passes a letter from the back of class to Riley and she has the letter. She opens it up and Charlie asked to go out with her. Cory was relating the Civil War to them as it was what they were going through. Cory asked Riley if it’s going through with her, she didn’t answer and Maya tells Riley “Something happened between with me and Lucas”. Lucas went “Oh boy” and Riley was upset and quickly said “Yes, I’ll go out with you” to Charlie. Cory then went “Hover Dam”.
Lucas was in Riley’s room and Riley was saying he’s his brother so he can be there. Cory, Topanga and Auggie are at the door and Cory said to Topanga “You sure this is real?” and Topanga replied “Yes”. Maya appeared in the scene sitting next to Lucas and Riley then that scene was over.
Cory had Farkle alone in class and asked him for help since he was in Texas with them and he’s best friends with them and Cory said he has no idea what’s going to happen next.
Auggie had a talk with Lucas in his room and he told him he’s Riley’s only brother and not anyone else and told Lucas not to hurt his sister. He was so protective over his older sister and that was so adorable.
Riley and Charlie were in the hallway later and they said they’ll go to the movies but Riley doesn’t want to hold hands or talk (she’s obviously hurt). She starts walking and the camera goes on her then to Farkle looking at her and then back to Farkle. Farkle went “Huh” and so did Charlie. Farkle found out that she was lying about her feelings as Maya and Lucas were sitting on the couches in Topanga’s Bakery not talking but she poured slurpee on Lucas’s head because he didn’t give the best talk to her. He talked about how he gave birth to a horse.
The next scene, Charlie was at Topanga’s Bakery. Riley shows up so they can go on their date and then Lucas comes in and didn’t know they were going on a date. Lucas sits down with Maya afterwards as they were on a date and told Riley he can’t be her brother Riley went “Why not?” and Lucas said Auggie said so. Then Riley went “Then what you would be?” in a sad way. Farkle figures out the case that Riley was lying about her feelings towards Lucas and Riley quickly put her hand over his mouth and dragged him outside of Topanga’s Bakery. He told her to stop lying and Riley insisted that they’re not meant to be couples and they’re brothers and sisters. We then saw flashbacks of Riley and Maya’s developments of relationships with Lucas and then Riley confessed to Farkle that she was lying and not to tell anyone. She started crying and hugged him and Riley said “I love you, Farkle” and Farkle replied “And I love you”.
Riley then went with Charlie on a date and then Farkle turned his head and Maya and Lucas were sitting and not saying a word to each other. Clearly uncomfortable.
The wonderful Girl Meets Texas trilogy ended with the last scene of Riley and Maya in Riley’s Bay Window, and they talked about their dates and then they did their ring power and Maya said “A little scared” and Riley said “Me too”.
