“Don’t make assumptions based on what you see” – Lucas
Finally, the small hiatus is over and new episodes are back!
This episode in my opinion was the best yet. This was also Ben Savage’s directorial debut. This episode also seemed familiar to Boy Meets World Season 2, Episode 12 Turnaround where Cory and Shawn give a girl makeup to make her look more popular.
This episode focused on appearance which is something that effects everyone these days. It taught us that it is more important to be a good person rather than it is to be beautiful. Another strong point in this episode is that you shouldn’t assume that people who are beautiful aren’t smart.
Smackle wanted to change her appearance as she thought Farkle liked Riley and Maya because they are beautiful and she thought she wasn’t but it turns out she did this for her debate to show everyone that the inside of you is what truly matters the most, not your appearance. Smackle wanted Riley and Maya to give her a makeover. Turns out, Farkle didn’t care about her beauty and he wanted to win the debate when she actually cared about the debate but instead she focused more on her beauty. She ended up not caring about the beauty when she was giving her speech at the debate. She also won the debate.
Towards the end of Smackle’s speech she said “However, I also learned that if you get swept up by what you are on the outside, you can lose who you are on the inside. Even though it is easy to get footed by the beauty of the trojan horse, it’s real power comes from the army within. Intelligence, compassion, integrity, courage, THAT army, is the real you. No matter what you look like. So, even though beauty may be skin deep, beauty is nowhere near as important as the army inside.” The writers couldn’t have written that line any better than it already was. A lot of people care about their appearance and get swept away by it and forget who they really are in the inside which is what Smackle was trying to say in her speech.
Smackle put on her glasses and then went “Wow, look at all of you, you’re all very deeply beautiful, especially you, Farkle.”
Lucas gave a wonderful speech on how people label him as a baseball player, or a jock when on in the inside he likes school, wants to get good grades, go to college and get a good life. I thought that his speech was another amazing part of the episode.
Also Auggie’s storyline with Topanga about his break up with Ava was hilarious and cute. I loved when Auggie says to Topanga “Ava said we might not be together for the rest of our lives” and then went onto blame Topanga for putting the crazy idea of Cory and Topanga into his head. Topanga’s response “Huh. I wonder how many people the idea of Cory and Topanga has ruined?” made me laugh out loud. Although I’ve got to say that he best line Topanga had in this episode was “Oh no, I married Feeny” in reference to Maya telling her “Yeah, don’t you get the home versions of these lessons? You’re married to the guy”.
Another great line from the episode was a scene with Smackle and Farkle.
Smackle: “If Riley and Maya weren’t beautiful…. Would you still love them? ”
Farkle: They’re beautiful? Oh yeah. I never really noticed.”
