MTV News interviewed both Michael Jacobs and Ben at the ATX Festival yesterday. We quoted part of the article where Michael talked about Matt returning to the show.
“Jack and Eric come to the girls’ middle school semi-formal through a very believable circumstance, and that’s where Jack Hunter meets Riley Matthews,” Michael Jacobs told MTV News on Friday at the ATX Television Festival. “He doesn’t know that she’s Cory’s daughter, but his realization that this can happen in life, that Cory and Topanga can have a creature such as this, changes him. It’s a lovely episode.”
He also stated this on the Boy Meets World cast members returning:
“We decided in the writers’ room that the theme of the first season was going to be friendship. Let’s first establish the friendship between Riley and Maya, let’s get to know them and their choices for who their friends are. And if the audience can embrace that, and then the choices, we can open up this world,” Jacobs said. “Riley and Maya, who the audience has now embraced, are the audience surrogates to meet what happened to the characters on ’Boy Meets World.’ Their reactions to them, and what their lives are like, are doubly interesting for the audience because they already like the girls and now they’re seeing not only their own reactions to the old core cast, but the girls’ reactions as well.”
That being said, Jacobs promised that he’s “only just begun” telling this story. “I will bring in the bulk of the ’Boy Meets World’ cast,” he said, “but then I will incorporate that cast into the lives of these girls.”
Yesterday we found out that Matthew Lawrence returned to Girl Meets World for one episode in Season 2. Today, Michael spilled some details to International Business Times at the ATX Festival on Matt’s (Jack’s) return.
Jacobs revealed that Lawrence was on set earlier this week to shoot his part – and that he played the part of Jack a little too well.
“Matty Lawrence comes in and he is playing Jack Hunter from 15 years ago –perfectly,” the series creator explained. “And I’m saying, that was a perfect take … throw it out.”
Jacobs said he told Lawrence to “show me the man.”
“Fifteen years have gone by and you are so used to these friends you grew up with that you don’t realize that all this time has gone by,” he continued. “Show me the man. And he just turned around and turned back and grew 15 years.”
Jacobs added that afterwards the scene between Lawrence’s character Jack and Will Friedle’s character Eric ended up “radically different and wonderful.” “They don’t understand that they’re not the 12 year old [kids] they used to be,” he said, explaining that part of the importance for “Girl Meets World” is seeing the growth of these characters.
Will Friedle tweeted a picture of an episode of Girl Meets World that he wrote which is “Girl Meets Semi-Formal”. He wrote “Sometimes you just have to tell your friends what to say! #WednesdaywisdomwithMrSquirrels”. We can’t wait to see the episode!
EW.com posted an interview with Will Friedle about his return to Girl Meets World as well as sharing an exclusive clip from Girl Meets Mr. Squirrels (it was so hilarious, it gave us watery eyes!). Also, my friend Mar’s 2 year old nephew is the one who Will mentioned in the interview.
ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY: How did Eric’s return come about? WILL FRIEDLE: I woke up one morning, and I watched the show again, and said, “You know, this is the perfect opportunity for me to come back and to work with everybody again, and I really can’t pass this up.” So I called Michael Jacobs and I said, “Can we have lunch?” And he said, “Am I going to be happy?” And I said, “You know what, let’s just go to lunch.” So we went out to lunch at a place called the Grove, and I said to him, “Yeah, I think I’m ready to come back this year.” And he said, “I’ve been waiting for this call since we announced the show!”
Leanne Aguilera just posted her exclusive interview with Will Friedle where she talked with him about his return to Girl Meets world. We have copied some of the article and have included the video interview as well. If you would like to read the rest of the interview them please go here.
Stop whatever you’re doing because this video will make your day!
Will Friedle is headed back to TV on tonight’s all-new episode of Girl Meets World – and only ETonline has your exclusive extended sneak peek of Eric Matthews’ return.
“It’s being back but it’s not being back,” Friedle spills in our first look featurette above. “It’s being back, but on a different set — it’s great!”
“It’s a heck of a lot of fun to come back,” the actor adds, “Being with Ben and Danielle, we spent every day together for seven years so that’s like going back with your family.”
