We’ve noticed a lot of people saying Girl Meets World better have Eric, Shawn, Morgan #1, Morgan #2, Joshua and many of the BMW cast members on this show. Girl Meets World is for a new generation and Michael Jacobs, Ben and the cast made that clear everywhere. The BMW cast members will have guest spots if they want to be on the show, but we’re not sure if any of them will be regulars. Rider said in an interview that he wouldn’t be a regular for Girl Meets World but that he agreed to guest star. There is no word about Will Friedle, Matthew Lawrence, Trina Mcgee, or Maitland Wardcoming back. Morgan was talked about in the early stages of planning for Girl Meets World. Michael Jacobs and Lily Nicksay who played Morgan number one had lunch and talked about it but since then we’ve not heard anything.
Michael Jacobs: For those looking for a “Boy Meets World” part two, Jacobs wants to be sure that viewers knows that “Girl Meets World” will be its own show. “I think it’s really necessary for the audience to understand this,” he told reporters. “My feeling is that the premise of the show is about these two girls having a friendship and going off into the world we know now. ‘Girl Meets World’ will be unique from ‘Boy Meets World’ in that way. However, it is the child of an original program. There is no way that I’m not going to include everyone that wants to be included on this piece, because they’re the genesis of the piece. For me, we may build a new house, but we are building it on ground, and that ground is ‘Boy.’”
Will it be accessible for people who have never seen Boy Meets World?
Ben Savage: It’s important for people to understand that it’s not going to be picking up where Boy Meets World left off. We’re trying to create a show for a brand new generation of kids to grow up with and learn from and enjoy. I hope that some of the fans who grew up with us, and who might be a little older now, aren’t expecting to turn it on and see Boy Meets World all over again. We’re basically going all the way back to season one, episode one, scene one, and take one of Boy Meets World. Only, this time, it’s from a girl’s perspective.
It stands on its own.
Ben Savage: It stands on its own. Now, that’s not to say that there aren’t going to be a lot of nuggets from Boy Meets World. I’m in it. Danielle [Fishel] is in it. We have Michael Jacobs helming the show, and he wrote every episode of Boy Meets World. It’s going to have a lot of the same flavor as Boy Meets World, but with different storylines, and I have kids in this one.
Luis: Ben Savage and Danielle Fishel will reprise their “Boy Meets World” roles on “Girl Meets World” — were you invited to join the cast as well?
Rider: They asked me to be a guest star on the show, which I did do. I think they know I wouldn’t be a regular. Everyone knows I’m moving away from acting. They know I’m more interested in coming back to direct an episode than play Shawn Hunter. At this point I only want to act in stuff that’s very different. I’ve already played Shawn on “Boys Meet World.” I want to do something I haven’t done before, as fun as it is to be on set.
And one of the best parts that should make many of you happy:
Were you nervous about actually reading the script?
SAVAGE: You know what? I knew I was in good hands. We have Michael Jacobs at the helm. He did every episode of Boy Meets World, and he’s doing Girl Meets World. We have a lot of the same writers from Boy Meets World, all back again. That’s very comforting to me, just to know that they’re all back. It feels good. A lot of these guys grew up with me and saw me grow up, and they know how to write for me. I think we’re in pretty good hands. So, I wasn’t nervous.
