I’ll start my experience with an unexpected surprise: Will Friedle and Rider Strong (and later Maitland Ward) made an appearance along with the rest of the cast when Michael Jacobs introduced everyone. The audience went absolutely nuts.
Like the first taping, they showed the audience their previously taped pilot episode. It felt more Disney than Boy Meets World, but the episode they filmed in front of us was much better in my opinion. At one point I overheard someone say the episode was titled ‘Girl Meets Brother.’
On top of being a brother-sister building episode, it involved Cory and Topanga teaching Riley the importance of responsibility. They leave her home to look after her little brother while they go out to celebrate their anniversary.
Let me just say that the Cory/Topanga moments were the cherry on top of what I felt to be a very balanced episode (time-wise) between the new kids and adults. The chemistry between Ben and Danielle is as strong as ever, and the audience nearly went into a frenzy during one particular moment. Seeing our beloved couple suddenly as parents should’ve been jarring, but watching the family dynamic between them felt very natural.
And last but not least, I need to mention Rowan Blanchard. Perfect casting. She has an endearing innocence about her that’s lost on other child actors of this generation. She plays the role in a sincere and honest way and God I love her for it. She’ll be a breath of fresh air on Disney Channel, just like Girl Meets World.
I’ll definitely be attending another taping when they resume filming next year.

Hello! Today I went to the taping of Girl Meets World. I had the most amazing time. I am a huge fan of Boy Meets World and had high expectations for the reboot of the show. I was skeptical of the show being on Disney Channel because I wanted it to be able to tackle true issue just the Boy Meets World did. I also did not want it to become a cheesy disney show like most of what is on today. After seeing Girl Meets World, I am truly excited for a new generation of kids to grow up watching it. It’s so cool to see Cory and Topanga all grown up. Their chemistry is incredible and it’s so awesome to see them parenting. The new kids are hilarious and will for sure carry on the legacy. Ben Savage and Danielle Fishel are so humble and grateful for the dedicated fans that have and will follow their journey. I had an awesome time!!

I went to tonight’s taping, and it was really great. Will Friedle, Rider Strong, and Maitland Ward stopped by. They’re not in the episode though.
They told us the episode’s called “Girl Meets Brother.” They filmed about half of it in front of us, and had us laugh and aww for the pre-filmed other half. Beforehand they showed us the pilot. They told us this is the fifth episode, even though it’s only the second audience filming. The first audience filming was for episode two. The pilot was not filmed in front of an audience.
Plot: Cory and Topanga celebrate their 15th anniversary. Riley babysits Auggie.
I went to the previous taping as well, meaning I’ve now seen three episodes. In my opinion, this was probably the strongest. These actors, writers, etc. are getting into their stride.
Notes:
- The classroom does not appear at all in this episode.
– Chronologically, if this is their 15th anniversary, this episodes takes place on November 5, 2014.
– No mention has yet been made, in the three episodes I’ve seen, of what Topanga does for a career. However, in this episode, right after Cory referred to himself as Riley’s teacher, Topanga referred to herself as Riley’s attorney, perhaps suggesting that Topanga’s a lawyer.
Rachel’s Experience
The excitement when I take someone to their first TV show taping is hard to explain. But when I take them to a “Girl Meets World” taping, it’s overwhelming to see their face. This past Tuesday I went to my second taping of GMW and brought along a friend. At the first GMW taping, I arrived two hours early and there were four people in line. Tuesday I arrived about the same time and there were so many, I couldn’t count. My saving grace was meeting up with my fellow BMW/GMW lover Tiffany and her daughter. They were 1 & 2 in line. We stood. We chatted. We waited….
They collect the tickets; we go through the tedious process of purse checking and body scanning. We walk in and excitement fills me as I see the stage. I can’t believe I am here again and then I look next to me and my friend has tears in her eyes. We dance, we laugh, we sing and then they introduce Michael Jacobs and my eyes well up with tears. At the first taping of GMW, when I saw Michael Jacobs, I cried like a little baby. This was the man that created my favorite childhood characters, the one’s I grew up with, cried with, laughed with and did homework with. They weren’t a reality, but he surrounded himself with an amazing team that made the characters come so to life that they felt real to me. I admired this man and was so glad he brought the characters back to life.
Then the moment comes. They introduce the cast. One by one, we cheer, we clap, we shout. Then the amazing happened. They bring out Sabrina Carpenter, Maya, as the best friend to Rowan Blanchard’s, Riley, and then Michael Jacobs says, “Since Sabrina as the best friend brought that kind of audience response, what would happen if I brought out Cory’s best friend? Ladies and gentlemen; Rider Strong”. That was the moment I lost it. Every tear fell and I cried and screamed as my inner tween demanded to be released. “What would Cory be without his best friend and of course he needs his brother? Ladies and gentlemen; Will Friedle”. That was it. My life moment had been made. I saw “Eric Matthews” in person. I was in love and I sat down crying. I couldn’t believe I just saw Cory, Topanga, Shawn and Eric on the same stage. I didn’t care who was around me, I couldn’t stop crying and screaming.
The episode started filming and I felt like I was there with Cory and Topanga watching them make plans for their “Anniversary” and watching Rowan and August act, they took my breath away as tiny Matthews and hit every nail on the head as to what I think the Matthews kids would look like. There were Cory and Topanga moments and I remember when I fell in love with them in the 90s and now here they were, my age, continuing their story.
As the taping ended, my friend leaned over and said, “I can’t believe we saw this. I can’t believe that we just watched them come to life. I can’t thank you enough. This was amazing”.
This morning, I am suffering a “GMW ‘hangover” in a sense because I am in love with this show already and it hasn’t even aired. There is such a connection with all ages. I can watch this show by myself or surrounded by friends and family and kids of all ages. I can’t put into words how much this show means to me and what a hit it is going to be. I know some are worried since it’s going to be on the Disney Channel and that it may be “cheesy”, but I can honestly say, with the original writing team of BMW and the AMAZING creator, Michael Jacobs, this show will be anything but cheesy. It is what BMW fans are expecting. Cory and Topanga, grown, with kids, struggling with life issues. It’s their story, continuing, and it’s better than anyone could imagine.
Jennifer H’s experience
The title of the episode was Girl Meets Brother. I got in line around 1pm I believe. We got in the studio several hours later and they showed us the first episode at 4:30. The episode was fantastic. It definitely has the standard Disney Channel look, as in very colorful and outfits and all. I believe the content was nothing like I had seen before on Disney. I honestly don’t think it was cheesy at all. What I loved is that it had a good message to it, just like Boy Meets World did. They definitely have that family element to it. Cory, Topanga, Riley and August are the cutest little family ever. They all love each other so much and they made sure that was evident in the episodes. I’m personally glad it is on Disney Channel because I think it will be great for families to watch together and kids can learn every day life lessons from the episodes.
The episode they filmed was about
Riley becoming more responsible and wanting a later curfew. Her brother wanted her to babysit him instead of finding a babysitter because it was Cory and Topanga’s 15th anniversary.
I’m not going to give away the ending, but it was great. I can tell every episode is going to be heart felt. Before they filmed the episode, Michael Jacobs introduced everyone individually. I can tell he really cares about this show and wanting it to get a good reaction from BMW fans. He kept saying that he wants to “honor” BMW and they are going to do their best. Rider Strong and Will Friedle also surprised the audience. Maitland Ward was also there.
The casting couldn’t be better. Rowan Blanchard plays Riley perfectly, there’s a sweet innocence to her that is hard to find in Disney actors. August plays Auggie perfectly too, for being only 6, he is a great actor. He is adorable to say the least. Sabrina Carpenter, who plays Maya is a great actress too. She’s definitely like Shawn in a lot of ways; she wants to be a rebel and doesn’t care what anyone thinks about her. She also doesn’t have any support at home and Cory and Topanga truly care about her. Corey Fogelmanis, who plays Farkle, is adorable too. He is just like Minkus. And of course Cory and Topanga still have that spark to them and they haven’t changed one bit. After the show, the whole cast signed autographs except for Danielle. They were all so nice and loved signing autographs. I cannot wait for the show to air sometime next year! I think most people will be happy with it.
